ANED Denies Colluding With NERC To Suspend Transactions

……. Condemns unapproved eligible customer transaction

………Calls the act illegal

The Executive Director, Research and Advocacy at the Association of the Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Mr Sunday Oduntan, has denied colluding with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in the recent suspension of all unapproved transactions under the Eligible Customer Regulation (ECR) 2017.

”Available records indicate that NERC has not approved any application for eligible customer status. Despite that, these companies proceeded to arrogate the powers of NERC to themselves by vesting in themselves eligible customer status and continued the unlawful and illegal operations over the years.” Oduntan said.

“The illegal and unlawful operations of these companies and the Generation Companies (GenCos) involved are direct cannibalizations of the electricity market and the entire value chain,” he added.

Oduntan also denied any collusion between the Distribution Companies (DisCos).

He added ” We wish to state unequivocally that this is untrue and irresponsible of the stakeholders who have failed to meet the requirements of the regulation attempting to pass the buck.”

NERC recently suspended all unapproved Eligible Customer Transactions.
