Another body of a bricklayer has been recovered under the rubbles of a three-storey building under construction that collapsed in Yaba axis of Lagos State, increasing the death toll to three.
The third person, a bricklayer, recovered under the rubbles has been handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) after it was brought out by emergency responders at the collapsed building sire on No.16, Akanbi Crescent in Onike, Yaba.
It was gathered that the third body brought out under the collapsed building was recovered at about 10:00 pm on Saturday, just as the emergency officials led by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) intensified search and rescue operations at the scene.
While the first deceased adult bricklayer’s body, whose identity was yet to be ascertained, was said to have been recovered under the collapsed structure at about 8:34 pm, the other was brought out 9:45 pm by the State’s emergency rescue officers.
Confirming the death toll, the Director-General, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, added that the rescue operations were still ongoing at the disaster site.
Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement released by LASEMA spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, said that the agency was adopting all tactics to ensure that anyone under the rubbles come out safe.
