Court Remands Two In Ondo For Killing Teenager With Pestle

 

A Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Oke-Eda in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Friday ordered the remand of two men for allegedly killing a teenage girl, Ebun Adesetimi, with pestle.

The defendants charged with murder and conspiracy are Oloruntoyin Abdullahi, 31 and Ayodele Kazeem, 26.

Police Prosecutor, Obadasa Ajiboye, told the court that the defendants killed Adesetimi, by hitting her head with pestle at about 5:40pm, at No 1, Otiko Street, Okuta Elerinla, Akure in the Akure Magisterial District on January 24, 2022.

He said they committed an offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 9 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The charge sheet read in part: ”That you, Oloruntoyin Abdullahi and Ayodele Kazeem, did conspire to commit felony, to wit: murder and thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The plea of the defendants were not taken.

Obadasa, therefore made an oral application to remand the defendant in prison custody pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Counsel to the defendants, Okolike Nnagozie did not oppose the prosecutor’s application.

In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni ordered the remand of the defendants in police custody and adjourned the case till February 25, 2022, pending the outcome of advice from the office of the DPP.
