Ejigbo APC Loses Party Elder

 

An Elder of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (ELCDA) of Lagos state, Pa Stephen Oyetunde Onadeko, is dead.

Pa Onadeko who died on Tuesday at age 89, was the pioneer Secretary of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ejigbo and a grassroots politician.

The Ejigbo APC elder, popularly known as ‘ The Government’ by his political associates, started his partisan politics with the Action Group (AG) and in the second republic he joined the progressive wing of the Nigerian politics, the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in 1979.

He was elected as a Councillor in the old Ojo Local Government in 1983.

Pa Onadeko, as a grassroots politician, was part of the campaign group that worked for the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as not only the Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for Lagos West in the 1993 general elections but also the winner of the election.

In 1999, Pa Onadeko joined hands with the Progressives to bring the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD) to Oshodi/Isolo local government.

He also played critical role in the creation of Ejigbo LCDA from the parent Council in 2002. Pa Onadeko and other political associates facilitated the siting of the secretariat at the UPN office (Current Council Secretariat) at NNPC busstop.

Due to his strategic position, political sagacity and roles in the political development of Ejigbo, Pa Onadeko had always been instrumental to the emergence of Council Chairmen in the local government since its creation.
