The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins last week lent his pastoral voice against domestic violence.
Martins who was fielding questions from journalists after the Chrism Mass penultimate Thursday frowned at domestic violence, describing it as a horrible thing that should not be given a place among humanity.
According to him, domestic violence has led to the death of many, particularly the women folk.
“It is complete cowardice for any man to lay a hand on a woman. It is irresponsibility to violate anyone within the family… Of course the wife should also not violet the husband because I hear that also happening these days. They are meant to support one another”, said Martins.
Th Archbishop advised women in abusive relationships not to hide their plights, in as much as it always good to avoid taking marital issues outside, at least by reporting to family members.
He encouraged proper communication between couples adding that couples could separate where they are unable to resolve issues.
” The Church permits what is called separation . We do not in anyway condone divorce. But there’s a need to have separation while every one involved do some rethinking”, said The Archbishop.
