Vehicle Veers Off Newly Rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge

Tragedy struck on Wednesday as a vehicle veered off the newly rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge, plunging into the Lagos lagoon on the day of Eid-el-fitri celebrations.

An eyewitness, identified as Akinola Adeniyi reported that the incident occurred around 11:30 am as the vehicle, headed from Iyana-Oworo to the Island, suddenly veered into the water.

According to him, the cause was attributed to excessive speeding by the driver.

Upon reports, emergency response teams, including Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Police, rushed to the scene for rescue efforts.

The accident also caused a significant traffic backlog on the bridge towards the Island.

LASEMA sources stated they were still determining the number of individuals involved in the tragedy.
