Northern Governors Insist South Must Produce Buhari’s Successor

All Progressives Congress (APC) governors of the Northern extraction have insisted that power must shift to the South as they rejected the purported adoption of the Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the party’s consensus presidential candidate.

The governors restated this on Monday after a meeting with the President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Thirteen of the Governors who attended the meeting stated that their decision to return power to the South is to ensure equity, peace, and unity of the country.

The decision of the Northern States’ Governors thus negated the earlier lie put forward by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Adamu Abdullahi that the President has endorsed the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan as the party’s consensus candidate.

Meanwhile, a reliable source informed NewsBeatng that the governors have vowed that Lawan cannot be forced on the northern governors to adopt.

The source assured that the governors would definitely convince President Buhari to adhere to their earlier position on the need to rotate power to the South in the line with the need to ensure fairness and justice in the polity.

” The governors would not agree to adopt Lawan after their earlier resolution for power shift to the South,” said the Source.

NewsBeatng gathered that members of the APC national working committee (NWC) who opposed the adoption of Lawan have demanded the conduct of an elective convention where delegates would be allowed to vote for any of the presidential aspirants of their choice.
