Court Orders SSS To Pay Sunday Igboho N20bn For Unlawful Invasion

 

…..Group describes Judgement As ‘Triumph Of Light’

A  State high court in Oyo has ordered the State Security Service (SSS) to pay Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, the sum of N20 billion for unlawfully invading his Ibadan residence.

The secret police had on July 1 laid seige at the apartment of Mr Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, located at Soka area of the state capital killing two and arresting twelve in the process.

Delivering verdict on Friday, the judge, Ladiran Akintola, awarded the sum as exemplary and aggravated damages in a fundamental rights suit filed by the separatist.

Igboho had demanded N5.5 billion as damages for the invasion.

He is currently in Benin Republic correctional centre.

Meanwhile, the umbrealla body of the Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), has described the judgement as the triumph of Light and Truth over gladiators of Illegalities.

Ilana Omo Oodua is led by a renowned Historian, Professor Banji Akintoye.

Reacting to the judgement, the group in a statement issued by its Communications Secretary, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, thanked the Judge for
Re-affirming in the verdict that Self-Determination is one of the Fundamental Human Rights of the Citizens that cannot be subjugated.

The Group urged the Nigerian Government through the SSS to Pay the fine awarded in favour of Igboho as ordered by the court with immediate effect.

“We thank the Juduciary for Re-affirming that Self-Determination is one of the fundamental human rights of the Citizens that cannot be subjugated.

“Our position is that this verdict symbolises triumph of light and truth over darkness. Ighoho represents the light and truth, while the Nigerian state stands for Illegalities.

“Our position now is that the Nigerian Government should be honorable by respecting the verdict of a court of competent jurisdiction. The #20billion damages ordered by court to be paid to Ighoho by the SSS should be paid with immediate effect in the interest of peace”, IOO, said.
