The governor of Lagos state and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to officially flag off his re-election campaign at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday.
The flag off would have in attendance all local government chairmen, State party executives, members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), APC local and ward executives and party faithful.
In a chat with the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Seye Oladejo, the party said there is robust security arrangement in place to ensure the security of participants and also to ensure the free flow of traffic in the area.
Oladejo said that the flag off would be a platform to further inform and educate Lagosians on the achievements of the state government under the leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, adding that Sanwo-Olu’s achievements would be the basis for his re-election.
” All is set for the performing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to flag off his re-election campaign on Saturday. The flagoff will ignite his campaign at the grassroots. Expect to hear from him directly his achievements that would be the basis of his re-election. Mr Governor has performed. His campaign message will be about projects completion, consolidating the THEMES agenda and rising the greater Lagos.
” On security, we have a security committee in place that is headed by the immediate past Commissioner of Police in the state, AIG Hakeem Odumosu (rtd). As we have a successful APC presidential campaign rally in Lagos fee days, so also we would have it tommorrow. I can assure you that everyone will be secured and the programme will not cause any traffic in and around the area”, said Oladejo.
WesternPost recalled that the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, at a media briefing to herald the flagoff, said the theme of the 2023 re-election campaign for Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat is: ”A Greater Lagos Rising!”.
Omotoso said the theme indicated the continuation of what the present administration promised in 2019 and had been implementing.
”We promised our people A Greater Lagos. What do we see around us? Abundant evidence of a new city rising from the womb of time. We do not make a false claim of having reached the zenith of our journey.
”Our contextual usage of the word is as an adjective that suggests an upward swing, an increase and an upward movement. These are the signs the people of Lagos state can see all around the state,” he said.
According to him, the campaign is not about Sanwo-Olu and his team alone but it is a tribute to all the youths who are putting Lagos on the global map.
He said the campaign was a celebration of the collective progress made in the last three and half years, against all odds.
The commissioner said that from the social motivational perspective, the idea of rising captured the essentialism of the spirit of thousands of ‘creative and tech rebels’ who call Lagos home.
He said that the creative and technology experts were changing the false narratives about Nigeria with music, movies, fashion, sports and technological innovations, hence, putting Lagos state on the global map.
