Odoragunshin Residents Stage Protest Over Obaship Tussle




The peaceful protest embarked upon last week by the good people of Odoragunshin in Eredo LCDA on the vacant stool of their king has taken another phase of publicity with the youth storming the premises of the Lagos State House of Assembly in Lagos today, 14th December, 2023.

The town was thrown into a state of ‘no traditional ruler’ about 9 years ago when the former monarch joined his ancestors.

The peaceful protesters demanded that the state government should as a matter of urgency come to the rescue of the residents by settling the imbroglio once and for all.

They also agitated that the state government should give them a responsive monarch and should not be by imposition.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly has assured the protesters that justice is assured in due course.

Chairman, House Committee on Local Government Administration and Community Development in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon, representing Kosofe Constituency 1. who received the letter of protest from the people assured them that “This matter would be addressed and given speedy attention to in due course”.

“Your petition would be looked into and resolved amicably. The house is always ready to give attention to such matters as your peace and peaceful coexistence matter to us”

While addressing the protesters, Hon. Slyvester Ogunkelu, representing Epe Constituency II at the state assembly who addressed the protesters after their letter was received said “I appreciate the youths for their violence free exercise. I want to assure you that the matter will be given quick response by the Speaker because he is a peace loving person”.

One o the youth protesters, Comrade Moshood Babatunde Ismail said “The development of our kingdom is important to us. We need a monarch who has the love of this community at heart”.

“We all want Prince Tomiwa because he is capable of restoring the lost glory of Odoragunshin”.

“Prince Tomiwa has been proactive in the development of the town. He can drive the necessary attention and might to develop the community”.

Also, Uthman Abdulazeez from Itunomo in Odoragunshin kingdom said “We implore the government to make it real within 6 months of this protest to resolve this issue amicably”.

“It is Prince Tomiwa we all want. He can invite progress and development into the town”

Comrade Olayinka Adekoya also joined others to call for speedy action from the government of Lagos state.

He said the youths are behind the choice of Prince Tomiwa who they all believe will do better crowned.

Temitope Oyebanjo who is from Itunomo quarter of Odoragunshin also took her time to explain why they want Prince Tomiwa as the new king.

She said “Sincerely, we are tired of these old people who can’t really give us what we want”.

“Imagine what Prince Tomiwa did sometimes ago. He brought two transformers to Odoragunship for our use. After suffering for many years”.

Alhaji Giwa Adekunle, the Oloritun of Eyindi in Odoragushin also solicited for a peaceful selection of the next king.

He called on the government to come to the rescue of the kingdom to usher in new era in the town.

“We are begging on Governor Sanwo-Olu to come to our aid by considering our wishes”.

“We urge them not to allow imposition in our case”.
