Just In: Lagos Police Hands Over Rescued Baby To Parents, Launches Intense Manhunt On Buyer

 

The Lagos Police Command has handed over to the parents a baby rescued by the police from the family’s maid who absconded.

Spokesman for the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement posted on his X handle, said that due to the intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of Monday abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Somolu.

Hundeyin further explained that the baby had been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.

He disclosed that efforts to apprehend the buyer were still ongoing.

” Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

” The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.

” Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.

It would be recalled that a maid who was recently employed by a family through an agent has sold the baby she was employed to care for.

The maid, identified as Ruth Okezie, reportedly absconded with the baby from the home in Shomolu at about 2a.m. on Saturday morning, Feb. 3.

After a missing person’s report was publicised on social media, the maid was found in Ikorodu, without the baby.

She has now confessed to selling the baby for N800,000.
