PDP NEC Okays Party Congress Timetable

…worries over Nigeria’s economic situation

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, approved the party congress timetable.

It also approved the reconstitution of disciplinary committees, and extended the tenure of the Constitution Amendment Committee, as parts of actions towards restructuring the leadership of the party.

These were parts of the resolutions reached by the party in its 98th NEC meeting held in Abuja.

The party also expressed worry over the deteriorating situation of the country, as it called for a restructuring of the party going forward.

A communique issued after the meeting, condemned what the party described as “ill-implemented policies” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, citing worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and rising unemployment rates as salient areas the administration had failed to perform in.

The NEC also alleged the gradual emergence of perceived totalitarianism in the country and the trend towards a One-Party State, highlighting its detrimental effects on national peace, stability, and corporate existence.

While decrying the acts of terrorism and violence plaguing various parts of Nigeria, the NEC demanded immediate action from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging a special National Security Council meeting and a restructuring of the economic team.

Addressing issues plaguing the party, the NEC called for a review of stifling policies and emphasized unity among PDP members to reclaim power at the center for the benefit of Nigerians and the sustenance of democracy.

The committee urged continued efforts towards rebranding, urging members to work together for the benefit of Nigeria and democracy.
