Damagum Restates Commitment To PDP, Says ‘Chairmanship Not Do Or Die Affair’

Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum has reiterated his commitment to the party, while emphasizing that the National Chairmanship position was not a “do or die affair”.

He stated this during the PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, asserting that despite potential changes in roles, like reverting to Deputy National Chairman, he remained a part of the National Working Committee (NWC).

He also highlighted the importance of forming a robust reconciliation committee to mend divisions among party members, particularly those stemming from past primaries.

“This is not a matter of life and death. I am still an elected member of this NWC. Even If I revert to deputy national chairman I’m still a member of NWC. The issue of surviving or not does not emerge,” he stated.

Damagum further stressed the need to strengthen the party for effective opposition and to prioritize the concerns of Nigerians in political discussions.

Following the over three-hour NEC meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, conveyed the demands of the party outlined in the communique.

These include urging the Federal government to reassess policies causing hardship and to revamp the Economic Team with individuals of integrity and competence.

The NEC also called for a review of policies stifling the economy, condemned tendencies towards one-party dominance, and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to convene a special National Security Council meeting to address the escalating insecurity gripping the nation.
