Fubara Storms Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters

Amidst the political unrest rocking the state, Governor Siminalayi Fubara stormed the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters on Thursday.

The governor visited the quarters of the legislators led by Martin Amaewhule under heavy security.

He said he visited the area as the state governor. But before he left, he strolled around the grounds for three minutes.

He paid the visit following the latest development in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

On Wednesday, a few legislators who support the governor chose Victor Oko-Jumbo, a member of the Bonny district, to be their speaker.

According to the Standing Order of the House, Oko-Jumbo was reportedly elected as the new speaker for the full 32-member Assembly on Wednesday at plenary by 10 am.

In the aftermath of the state’s political crisis, Oko-Jumbo was one of the four legislators who remained faithful to Fubara.

Edison Ehie, who had been chosen speaker during the crisis, subsequently resigned from the State Assembly and was named the governor’s chief of staff.

The number of MPs present at the session that elected Oko-Jumbo as speaker remained unclear.
