Many Injured In Gbagada Bridge Auto Crash

 

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have swiftly responded to a collision on Gbagada Bridge toward Gbagada express way in the late hours of Sunday, rescuing a 3-year-old girl and four others in the process.

 

Confirming the incident,  Adebayo Taofiq, Head of  LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, stated that the rescued individuals were taken to Gbagada General Hospital by LASTMA officials and Lasambus personnel.

 

According to LASTMA, a preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that a Benz driver lost control due to mobile phone usage, colliding with a parked Volkswagen Commercial bus undergoing battery repair.

 

Adebayo confirmed that a 3-year old girl who sustained a head injury, while the others, including the bus driver, suffered fractures.

 

He stated, “LASTMA personnel apprehended the driver of the Benz car (JJJ 219 XU) immediately and handed him over to police officers from Alonge Police Station at Oworonsoki, present at the accident scene,” Adebayo stated.

 

“LASTMA personnel promptly cleared the two vehicles from the expressway to ensure smooth traffic flow on Gbagada Bridge towards Gbagada Express Way.”

 

Reacting to the incident, Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, expressed condolences to the injured victims and emphasized the significance of safety.

 

He further urged all motorists, including commercial bus drivers, to refrain from using phones while driving and to avoid speeding, whether within or outside Lagos.
