Just In: Gunmen Abduct Journalist In Abia

 

A Nigerian journalist, Chucks Onuoha has been reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen in Abia State.

Onuoha was a former Abia State Correspondent of The Sun Newspaper based in Umuahia.

Arise news gathered that victim was hijacked, late Tuesday from his Umungasi, Ohuhu Umuahia home at about nine O’clock in the night.

A local community leader, Suleiman Anyalewechi confirmed the incident, indicating that the kidnappers have already established contact with the family.

Another source says, the kidnappers have demanded for a N10 million ransom.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Abia State Council, Victor Ndukwe has equaly confirmed the news of the abduction of their colleague.

But, the Abia State Police Command spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna said the command has not gotten any report on that incident.

This is the second time a journalist is being abducted in Abia State, the first was in 2012 when a former reporter with the Nation Newspaper, Ugochukwun Eke was kidnapped in front of his residence at Aba.

The abduction of the journalist is coming on the heels of the kidnap of a medical doctor, Uwadinachi Iweha, who works at a private facility in the State.

The top medical worker is still being held by his abductors despite threats by the colleagues, the Nigerian Medical Association, Abia State chapter to commence strike as a result of the continued hostage.
